    DashCommand App Available for Android

    From: http://caraudiomag.com/

    Press Release

Automotive enthusiasts looking for more in-depth communication with their vehicles can now turn their Android smartphone into an advanced in-car computer. Previously only available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, Palmer Performance Engineering’s DashCommand app allows access to advanced engine parameters, performance data, fuel economy data, and trip statistics, and includes specialized features such as racetrack mapping, an inclinometer (for off-roading), and a skid pad feature for monitoring g-forces. DashCommand also can be used as a scan tool to read and clear OBD-II trouble codes that trigger the “check engine” light.

Whether they are seeking to monitor the tune of a track car or manage their commuter’s fuel efficiency, users have up to 229 OBD-II parameters at their fingertips. Easily visible on their own high-quality color smartphone screen through DashCommand’s virtual dashboards, data is pulled directly from the vehicle’s OBD-II port through a low-cost OBD-II connection device (available separately). DashCommand also integrates the smartphone’s GPS and accelerometer for performance measurements. Data logs can then be emailed to a PC for further analysis. Up to 27 customizable gauges display data on the screen in an easily navigated format, preventing in-vehicle clutter and costly hardware.

The new Android app for DashCommand is now available through Android Market, while the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch app is available through the iTunes App Store.

I have a few apps but this one seems to trump all of them in one.

That is pretty sweet! The guys going all out and moving their instrument clusters could just replace them with an iPad or an Android-based tablet. Speed, tach, fuel levels - does it do coolant temp also?

Yeah, I saw coolant temp. I did a bunch a research. I went with a $20 ebay 327ELM bluetooth adapter and will probably download Torque for Android $5 as this is the cheapest wireless combo. Can't beat $25 for code reading. Will report back.
